What were you looking for in your career?
My primary focus was to start my career in a challenging environment, where I could continue to learn, grow and progress. I looked for development opportunities, as well as a role that would give me variety and always keep me on my toes!

As well as being challenging I wanted a job that provided me with the opportunity to meet and speak to new people on a daily basis. The financial reward was also an incentive when looking to start my career.

I was keen to work in a competitive industry within which I could forge a long term career. I looked to begin this in a medium sized, yet successful organisation.

Why did you choose Digby Morgan?
Digby Morgan was my first choice as unlike the other recruitment organisations I had interviewed at, I left the interviews feeling as though the employees were truly valued and supported in their work. All the people I met during the interview process were friendly, positive and enthusiastic. I could tell they believed in the organisation and its values, working as a team to provide a high level of service and professionalism.

Which division do you work in?
I work in the HR Interims division, as one of a team of 12.

Please describe a typical day
In recruitment, no two days are the same, particularly on the interim side which moves very quickly, but a typical day would certainly involve the following…

First thing, checking e-mails and voicemails, responding to anything that’s happened overnight.

Going through web ad response, calling potential candidates to speak about their availability, inviting them in for interview with me here at Digby Morgan.

Speaking to clients to take a thorough job brief, arrange a client visit to meet and take more details about the role, and get a better understanding of the business. Write a web ad for the new role, search the immediately available candidates we know and call to talk through the positions, and if they’re keen send their CVs to the client.

Coordinate interviews, take candidate and client feedback after their meetings. If both sides are keen to proceed to the next stage, relay this to the client and urge them to move quickly.

On success - manage the offer process, make sure both parties are keen, organise contracts to be sent out and arrange start date!

At the end of every day, make a to-do list of key things that need to be dealt with the following day.

What has your role at Digby Morgan given you from a self-development perspective?
Since joining the interims team I have developed a greater level of confidence, building and maintaining relationships with colleagues and clients at all levels. The recruitment industry is notorious for its highs and lows. This environment has taught me to be resilient when things don’t go according to plan, and be even more determined to succeed. Working with a variety of clients has improved my commercial awareness and helped me develop a strong understanding of the recruitment industry and the HR market.

What advice would you give to candidates thinking of applying to the Associate programme?
My advice to applicants would be to research the company and get a good understanding of what the recruitment industry is about. Applicants should consider the type of opportunities that will be on offer at Digby Morgan and whether their skills match the ones required. An understanding of HR would also be helpful. Doing this will ensure candidates are well prepared for the application process and good luck!
