Rachel Weymouth

What did you read at University?
I read Psychology and Philosophy (BSc) at Bristol University.

What were you looking for in your career?
I was looking for an opportunity to gain a good understanding of a wide range of different businesses and to make the transfer of skills I had learned from university to the work place.

Why did you choose Digby Morgan?
I chose Digby Morgan because I was really impressed with the individually structured training programme. It allows you to progress at a rate which is suitable for you yet at the same time provides you with targets to strive towards. The support which I have received is fantastic. There is always some one to help you when you need it but at the same time there is the opportunity to take on as much responsibility as you are ready for.

I was also struck by fantastic environment which I got a brief glimpse of at the associate day. Everyone was so genuinely friendly and really seemed to get on together. It was then that I knew I wanted to be a part of that too.

Which division do you work in?
I joined the entry to mid-level Resourcing team in September 2007.

Please describe a typical day
Day are always varied which keeps things interesting. I try to structure my day around any appointments of interviews which I may have. First thing I check my calendar to see what I have booked in for that day. I then respond to any emails I have received overnight. I go through new applications for my roles which involves reading CV’s and arranging interviews with the suitable candidates. If I have an interview or a client visit then I take time to prepare for that by reading the candidates CV or looking on the clients web site. If I have any candidates interviewing for roles then I will give them a call to prep them and I also call both them and the client afterwards to get feedback.

Throughout the day I am answering the phone to potential candidate enquiries and responding to ad hoc emails. Hopefully I hear that a candidate has been offered a role! It is fast paced and fun and the highs and lows keep everything exciting.

What has your role at Digby Morgan given you from a self-development perspective?
My role at Digby Morgan has really helped to develop my confidence. I am a much better communicator and have no fear speaking to any one now, either face to face or via the phone. Working to tight deadlines has definitely improved my time management skills and I have gained a huge amount of commercial awareness in a short space of time. I am constantly learning and improving and I know that these are skills which will be invaluable for the rest of my career.

What advice would you give to candidates thinking of applying to the Associate programme?
I would advise candidates thinking of applying to the Associate programme to really think about what they want to get from their first role. I would definitely suggest investigating what a job in recruitment involves and talking to as many people as possible about what different jobs are available. The most important thing to consider is what sort of environment you will be happiest in as this is what makes the difference between looking forward to coming to work and loathing it.
