What did you read at University?
History B.A (2:1) at The University of Reading

What were you looking for in your career?
When I left university I didn’t really know which career path I wanted to follow and had never really thought about recruitment. I decided to think about what I wanted out of a job and the skills I could offer and with some help from the careers advisor at Reading I decided to look into recruitment. I really wanted a career that would give me a solid foundation and exposure to many different businesses as well as improving my confidence and allowing me to work in a team.

Why did you choose Digby Morgan?
There are many reasons why I was initially attracted to Digby Morgan; the great brand, impressive client list and fantastic development opportunities. However, the deciding factor for me was definitely the associate day. I had already warmed to the company after my telephone interview but meeting the consultants face to face made my mind up, Digby Morgan was the company for me! I was so impressed at the amount of enthusiasm and passion the consultants had, everyone was so friendly and eager to make me feel as comfortable as possible. I was also impressed that senior members of the team had given up their time to talk informally to graduates. Everyone seemed to genuinely get on and enjoy working together, I just hoped that one day I would be part of it.

Which division do you work in?
I work in Resourcing, we focus on the entry level to middle management HR roles – typically £20,000 to £50,000 in terms of salary. The client base we work with is hugely varied, and the team are fantastic. Since the day I started I have felt truly welcomed.

Please describe a typical day
Every day at Digby Morgan is different but most days start with me checking my emails which are usually from candidates or people applying to my web adverts. The morning is usually spent keeping in touch with candidates or interviewing. If I am working on a new role then I will spend a fair amount sourcing for candidates; this will involve doing searches on our database, asking the team for suggestions and perhaps writing an advert. By lunch time I may have arranged to meet a candidate who I have recently placed for lunch to talk about how they are getting on. I strongly believe that the fact Digby Morgan offer such great customer service makes them truly unique. in the afternoon I may have a client visit lined which will involve going to clients offices and getting to know their culture. This is another aspect of Digby Morgan practice which makes us unique; culture fit is number one priority. Before leaving the office I will make sure I have written a list of things to do for the following day. This job has really taught me to be even more organised than I already was. Being organised is absolutely key as it is vital to keep on top of jobs and think ahead.

What has your role at Digby Morgan given you from a self-development perspective?
It has taught me to be commercial and has built my confidence in the work place. I have had great training on all aspects of HR and have learnt to work towards targets and deadlines. This job has also taught me to be resilient, things don’t always go according to plan and it is so important to keep learning. I have also met a variety of different people and have already made some great friends. Digby Morgan offers a variety of different social events which allows you to get to know fellow members of the team. I am very excited about getting involved in the ski trip and sailing event.

What advice would you give to candidates thinking of applying to the Associate Programme?
I would advise you to think about what you want from your career and what skills you can offer. I would also suggest doing research into recruitment and thinking about whether you would be suited to a career in it. I would also advise you to do your research; look at the Digby Morgan website, research recruitment and take a look at what is involved in a career in HR.
On the assessment day I strongly advise you to be yourself and answer questions honestly. The day is fun and a chance to get any questions answered so ask away we are always happy to help! Good Luck!
