What did you read at University?
I read (BA) History and Archaeology at the University of Reading.
What were you looking for in your career?
I was looking for a forward thinking and inspirational company to take me on as a trainee. I was also looking for a structured graduate scheme which would thoroughly prepare me for work within an organisation I could be enthusiastic about.
Why did you choose Digby Morgan?I chose Digby Morgan because it enthuses about the progress of every single person within the company. All achievements are noticed within a friendly and uncompetitive environment. They also invest heavily in their graduates, providing them with a structured and tailored programme to suit everyone. The graduate scheme gives you a sound footing in the first step of your career, providing you with a fantastic grounding for the rest of your working life.
Another reason I joined Digby Morgan was because of the people. Everyone was friendly, yet highly professional. I was made to feel very welcome at the assessment day and felt as though my application was truly valued. I have not been disappointed, everyone is encouraging and extremely friendly and it makes for a great working environment.
Which division do you work in?I joined the entry to mid-level Resourcing team in July 2007
Please describe a typical day Each day can vary from day to day and no day is ever the same. However, on average my day will start by looking at new candidates who have applied to roles. I will then call them and brief them on the roles which they have applied for. Following this, I will usually spend some of my day calling clients to catch up, networking and understanding new developments within the business to which I am assigned. I also spend much of my day meeting with candidates to formally discuss their job searches and expectations. I will meet with clients on average of about twice a week, this is to discuss CVs, understand job specifications and thoroughly understand the cultures of the companies in which I am recruiting.
What has your role at Digby Morgan given you from a self-development perspective? My role here at Digby Morgan has improved my confidence and resilience. I have learnt to work within a professional business environment, dealing with clients and candidates and understanding how the market works. I have become commercially aware and understand the different cycles of business throughout the year. I believe the job has prepared a strong grounding for my future career.
What advice would you give to candidates thinking of applying to the Associate programme? Before applying for the graduate scheme it would be advisable to research the recruitment industry. All companies work differently, so compare Digby Morgan with other agencies to understand the differences. As Digby Morgan is an HR Recruitment company, an understanding of HR should be sought before applying as we need to be enthusiastic and knowledgeable about HR.
