CV Writing
Quite simply, the most important introduction you can give an employer. There are many guides to writing a good CV but the crucial thing to remember is that yours may be one among many on a potential employer’s desk. If it is difficult to follow, too long, or chronologically muddled, you’ve probably missed a great opportunity to get any further. So here are our top tips for writing a great CV – and remember, we’ve seen thousands, so we know what works.
Format
- Use bullet points and be concise
- Avoid long chunks of prose
- Don’t go over 3 sides of A4
- Keep fonts, borders and tables, simple
- Break things up with subheadings
- Non HR related experience? Mention it, but briefly
Chronology
- Name and contact details
- A succinct positioning profile
- Qualifications and education including grades, type of degree and dates
- Summarise your experience, working back from your most recent position
- List any IT systems you are competent on, particularly any HRIS
- Update regularly!
